Portugal’s SEAPOWER Visits KAPSOM to Advance Green Ammonia Cooperation

In January 2026, a four-member delegation from SEAPOWER, a Portugal-based Technology and Innovation Center (CTI) dedicated to the Blue Economy, visited KAPSOM for a three-day technical and strategic exchange. The visit focused on exploring the feasibility of small-scale green ammonia demonstration projects and strengthening mutual understanding around decentralized Power-to-X solutions.

KAPSOM & SEAPOWER

Portugal is widely recognized for its abundant renewable energy resources, with hydropower and wind energy playing a dominant role, complemented by strong solar irradiation conditions. Building on this favorable renewable energy landscape, SEAPOWER has long been committed to the development and utilization of marine and renewable resources, supporting innovation and sustainability across the blue economy value chain. Driven by a shared confidence in the long-term role of green ammonia in the global energy transition, SEAPOWER initiated discussions with KAPSOM to explore potential technical pathways and application scenarios.

As a pioneer in standardized and modular green ammonia production units, KAPSOM has developed compact solutions designed for decentralized deployment. In addition to its standardized 2,000 tons-per-annum green ammonia production unit, KAPSOM also offers customized configurations tailored to specific customer capacity requirements and local energy conditions. This flexibility makes small-scale green ammonia projects particularly suitable for regions with strong renewable resources and emerging demand for clean energy carriers.

During the visit, technical teams from both organizations engaged in in-depth discussions covering system design, operational concepts, and potential demonstration scenarios for small-scale green ammonia production. The SEAPOWER delegation also toured KAPSOM’s equipment manufacturing facilities, gaining firsthand insight into the design philosophy, engineering approach, and manufacturing capabilities behind KAPSOM’s Power-to-X solutions.

The visit concluded with constructive exchanges on possible future working directions. KAPSOM expressed its strong interest in further collaboration with SEAPOWER, particularly in the context of bridging the gaps between innovation and real-world application.

SEAPOWER acts as a knowledge transfer platform connecting the scientific system with industry, contributing to a bluer, greener, and smarter future through technology demonstration and innovation. KAPSOM, meanwhile, continues to drive innovation in green ammonia, green methanol, and ammonia cracking technologies, aiming to accelerate the deployment of scalable and practical Power-to-X solutions worldwide.

Through exchanges such as this visit, both organizations reaffirm their commitment to supporting the global energy transition and advancing the adoption of green ammonia as a key carbon-free energy carrier.
